Cymax Group Announces Majority Owner is New CEO

Plenty of Fish founder Markus Frind is the new CEO of Vancouver-based online furniture seller Cymax Group Technologies.

While new to the role, Frind has been part of the company since 2015, when he sold his online dating site to Match Group for $575 million US and invested in Cymax. He currently owns 70 per cent of Cymax and has served on its board of directors for nine years.

“I am excited about the opportunities ahead of us,” says Frind. “I have lots of ideas on how we can infuse and inject technology and AI to continue to drive growth.”

Frind is a well-known technology industry thought-leader and investor. In addition to Cymax, he is CEO of Frind Properties and proprietor of award-winning Frind Estate Winery in Kelowna, B.C.

Frind succeeds interim CEO Mike Herenberg who will continue as COO on the executive team.

Rizwan Somji stepped down as CEO in December of last year. He served at the company’s helm for five years, leading the company through significant growth and a number of challenges, including repositioning its offering and guiding it through the Covid-19 pandemic and its aftermath.

Founded in 2004, Cymax is an e-commerce technology and logistics services platform for furniture vendors and retailers in Canada and the United States. The company leverages technology that maximizes the best of automation, optimization and AI to simplify the complexities of e-commerce through its two products, Channel Gate and Freight Club.
