Cozey Makes Foray into Physical Retail with Store Opening

Direct-to-consumer furniture specialist Cozey has opened its first brick-and-mortar store.

Located in the trendy Trinity-Bellwoods neighbourhood of Toronto, the 3,600-square-foot space marks a major milestone in the Canadian brand’s expansion from an online retailer to a physical presence in the furniture market.

“Opening in West Queen West isn’t just about finding the right location,” says CEO and founder Frédéric Aubé. “It’s about embedding ourselves in the community and contributing to the local vibrancy and economy.”

The Toronto location is part of Cozey’s strategy to blend the ease of online shopping with the benefits of in-store experiences; an immersive environment that encourages exploration plus the ability to sit, for the first time, on the company’s expanding line of sofas and chairs, and experience living room tables and storage products, such as wall shelves and credenzas.

“The Cozey store isn’t just a showroom — it’s an interactive space that brings our online community to life,” says Aubé. “Here, you can touch, feel and see how our designs transform spaces.”

The space is also touted as fully accessible and pet-friendly to reflect the company’s commitment to inclusivity and its core values of putting people first.

Two days prior to the opening of its flagship showroom on March 14, Cozey launched a pop-up store at Quartier Dix30, a commercial lifestyle centre on Montreal’s south shore. Operating from March to April, the store offers a condensed yet comprehensive experience akin to the Toronto location, allowing visitors to personally try out Cozey’s array of products before making a purchase.

Other pop-ups are slated for multiple Canadian cities throughout 2024.

“Through our pop-up strategy, we’re gauging interest and gathering insights on the retail impact in various Canadian cities,” says Aubé. “This will guide us in determining prime locations for future flagship stores across the country.”

Cozey launched online in June 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic as a sofa-in-a-box brand. Today, the company sells much more, including sectionals, accent chairs and tables, outdoor furniture, storage, accessories and washable rugs.
