Omhu Makes Canadian Debut After Anticipated Arrival

Scandinavian furniture brand Omhu has expanded into the Canadian market on the heels of its U.S. launch last fall.

Best known for Teddy, its modular “boneless” sofa that’s available in 26 colours, the company will remain primarily direct-to-consumer. Customers purchase through the brand’s website but can experience its products at Friends of Omhu partner locations, which can include a cozy coffee shop, shoe store or other lifestyle retailer. At launch in August, there were six physical brand touchpoints across Toronto and Montreal.

Omhu’s Canadian debut has been highly anticipated. According to Retail Insider, more than 50,000 people joined the brand’s waitlist before they could purchase its products, with 2,000 registering on the pre-launch site within the first few hours.

To celebrate its Canadian arrival, waitlist members had a chance to win a free sofa, while Omhu customers who ordered on launch day received complimentary pillows.

Omhu is the culmination of a friendship spanning 30 years. Frederik Frøsig and Jonas Larsen founded the company in 2022, when they conceived the Teddy sofa and designed it in a garage as Omhu’s sole product offering.
