‘That Girl Shannon’ Closes Prairie Furniture Store
After 14 years in business, Front Porch Interiors has shuttered its doors.
Owner Shannon Houff, otherwise known as ‘That Girl Shannon’ for her own collection of occasional furniture and accessories, closed the store in the small rural town of Wawota, Sask., in May.
The self-professed “normal cowgirl” and prairie native said in a Facebook post that she wants to focus more on her interior design business, prompting the decision.
“It’s my passion,” said Houff. “I want to work with more (people) and on larger and different projects.”
Since making the announcement, the Canadian designer has embarked on another venture – renting a one-bedroom, one-bathroom condominium in Playas del Coco, Costa Rica, which she redesigned.
Front Porch Interiors was Houff’s second furniture operation. She ran a smaller store, called From the Inside Out, for five years out of the front of a greenhouse before moving into a nearby John Deere factory, where she rebranded.
The now-closed 4,000-square-foot store catered to eclectic tastes in the rural community by not quite embracing the town’s aesthetic. It offered dining and living room, office and bedroom furniture pieces from resources such as Mobital, Stylus, Moe’s Home Collection, Huppé and others, as well as lighting, rugs, art and decorative accessories.
