New Ikea Facility Coming to Southern Ontario

Ikea Canada has broken ground on a new customer distribution centre (CDC) in Hamilton, Ont.

“We are incredibly excited to announce this significant investment in one of our key markets across Canada,” says Selwyn Crittendon, CEO and chief sustainability officer at Ikea Canada. “This expansion is a testament to our commitment to becoming more accessible, affordable and sustainable for our customers. (It) marks a major milestone in our journey to enhance the omnichannel shopping experience and better serve the needs and dreams of Canadians.”

Located at 212 Glover Rd., the nearly 483,300-square-foot distribution centre will also include a collection point where customers can pick-up their orders.

It is anticipated to open in summer 2027. When it does, the facility will create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, including warehouse, delivery, kitchen installation, design services, business-to-business and third-party (TaskRabbit) assembly roles.

The facility is aiming for net-zero carbon national certification, LEED gold certification and net-positive energy annually, and to contribute to zero emission transportation targets. Once certified, it will be among the top five largest zero carbon industrial buildings in the province.

“This investment is an outstanding example of how my council colleagues and I believe ecological stewardship and economic development are complementary forces to support long-term growth and prosperity,” says Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath.

The new distribution centre is part of a more than $400 million investment by Ikea Canada to enhance its omnichannel journey and retail experience.
