Fisher & Paykel Opens Premier North American Outpost
Fisher & Paykel has launched its first Canadian experience centre.
The fourth flagship for the luxury appliance brand is located within the historic former Toronto Carpet Factory’s boiler house in Liberty Village. Others can be found abroad in London, Auckland and Melbourne.
The Toronto experience centre represents a significant commitment to the Canadian market, which Fisher & Paykel CEO Daniel Witten-Hannah describes as “an important and growing market for the brand that deserves investment and support.”
Designed in collaboration with Omar Gandhi Architects, kitchen design partners Arclinea, Henrybuilt and Gibson Greenwood, and strategic partner Alt Group, the centre showcases the brand’s ‘Designed in Aotearoa, New Zealand’ ethos and commitment to insight-led design, sustainable innovation and material authenticity.
“Through our work with Omar Gandhi and our luxury kitchen partners, we’re showcasing the potential of our appliances in some of the world’s best kitchens, framed by Toronto’s rich industrial heritage,” says Witten-Hannah.
The 4,100-square-foot interior celebrates contrasts through a carefully curated material palette. Locally quarried stone, beautifully finished North American timbers and red-hued plaster create a dramatic interplay with the building’s original red-brick masonry, industrial steel and elegant stonework. Sculptural moments and experiential zones are woven throughout the space to showcase the brand’s dedication to “raw sophistication.”
“The result is a layered and intimate spatial experience,” says Gandhi, founder of the self-named architectural firm. “Jane Jacobs once said, ‘New ideas need old buildings,’ and this project reflects that philosophy. By integrating heritage elements with contemporary design, we’ve created a space that is both timeless and forward-looking.”
The Toronto experience centre serves as a design resource and an immersive destination for architects, designers and homeowners. It features three main kitchen set-ups. The social kitchen has a stainless-steel Arclinea island and custom dining table by Canadian furniture designer Christian Woo, which serves as working space for culinary events, accommodating up to 20 guests. Designed by the Fisher & Paykel design team and crafted by Gibson Greenwood, the minimal kitchen integrates minimal style appliances into a bespoke, visually recessive architecture. Finally, the Henrybuilt professional kitchen showcases professional style appliances paired with refined timber millwork, emphasizing power and precision.
Other showroom highlights include an apartment kitchen designed for compact luxury living; a DCS outdoor kitchen for chef-level outdoor cooking; an innovative fabric care experience demonstrating Fisher & Paykel’s commitment to extending garment life through tailored care solutions; a plan and choose space for clients to collaborate with the brand’s design consultants to find solutions; and sculptural installations like a hidden induction ‘hot rock’ plinth and a product sculpture in the historic building’s chimney.
