BDI Announces Appointment of New President

Modern home furnishings manufacturer BDI has a new president.

Sol Garay joined the company in mid-October, bringing more than 25 years of industry knowledge from managing home furnishings and consumer businesses to the role.

“Sol’s extensive experience in product marketing, global brand management and her proven ability to lead high-performing teams make her an exceptional addition to our team,” says Bill Becker, CEO, founder and design director of BDI.

Throughout her career, Garay has played a pivotal role evolving iconic brands like Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn and Gap. At Williams-Sonoma, she was instrumental in revitalizing Williams-Sonoma Home, significantly expanding the business.

Garay most recently served as vice-president of global creative and brands at McCormick Inc., a spice and flavour manufacturing company. During her nearly six-year tenure in various senior leadership roles, she led teams responsible for all marketing campaigns, successfully grew the brand portfolio, and strengthened McCormick’s strategic and creative capabilities.

“I am thrilled to be joining a company that is so dedicated to innovation and design,” says Garay. “BDI’s commitment to creating functional, beautifully designed furniture deeply resonates with me, and I look forward to working with the team as we continue to grow the brand.”

Garay’s journey in home decor began in her youth, inspired by her mother’s home decor shop where she started working at just 13 years old.

“From a young age, I developed a deep appreciation for how beautifully designed spaces can enhance everyday living,” she says. “This early exposure shaped my passion for design, which has been a driving force throughout my career.”

BDI marks a major milestone this year as it celebrates 40 years in business. The company designs and manufactures home furnishings, including media furniture, home entertaining, office solutions, bedroom collections and more. Its products are available in Canada through retailers JC Perreault and Maison Corbeil in Quebec, Casalife in Toronto and Kitchener, Ont., and Inspiration Furniture in Vancouver and Coquitlam, B.C., among other locations.
