Sandy’s Furniture Concludes Nearly 50-year Legacy
After almost five decades as one of British Columbia’s most trusted furniture retailers, Sandy’s Furniture concluded its remarkable legacy with a retirement auction.
The Coquitlam store sold off more than $1 million in inventory over three days, Feb. 7-9, through a live online auction at Direct Auctions.
The sell-off featured a wide range of floor models and brand-new, in-box inventory for the living room, dining room and bedroom. Furniture included sofas, sectionals and recliners, fabric and leather seating, mattresses and bedroom sets, and home decor and accessories from featured brands Decor-Rest, Sunday’s, Stylus, Moe’s Home Collection, Serta, Natuzzi Italia and Kingsdown, among others.
“We’re extremely proud of what we’ve built since 1976, and deeply grateful to our loyal customers,” said the Sandy’s Furniture team in a media release. “This auction allows our inventory to move into new homes as we step into retirement.”
Sandy’s Furniture first announced it was closing last September, kick starting a going out of business sale that lasted months.
The independent furniture retailer is among a number of recent store closures in the province, as long-established family businesses face succession challenges upon reaching retirement age. In 2025, Decor West and Creative Home Furnishings both shuttered their Chilliwack locations, and Richmond’s Barocco Fine Furniture closed up shop.
