Casper Sleep Makes Leadership Change at the Helm
Direct-to-consumer mattress brand Casper Sleep has announced Joe Megibow will lead the company into the next chapter of growth.
Megibow succeeds Emilie Arel as CEO. Arel had served in the role since late 2021, and will assist with the transition until March 1.
“No other mattress brand has cultivated the level of customer trust and love that Casper has, and it’s our time to leverage this unique position,” says Megibow. “This is the sleep brand pioneer that disrupted the industry, creating unmatched brand awareness in a sleep category with a strong focus on innovative products that support our passion for sleep health. With recent investment from strategic partnerships, Casper is well capitalized and poised for significant growth.”

A retail and technology trailblazer for more than three decades, Megibow propelled mattress producer and retailer Purple into sustained profitability and led significant market share growth through major wholesale expansion, the launch of retail stores and e-commerce advancements while at the company’s helm from October 2018 to December 2021. Most recently, he was CEO of Bright Cellars, the data-driven wine discovery and production platform. His experience includes advising portfolio companies at Advent International, leading American Eagle‘s $550-plus million direct-to-consumer business, as well as overseeing Expedia’s $11 billion U.S. business.
Megibow’s appointment comes at an inflection point for Casper, as the company gears up for a new and innovative mattress rollout, set to launch in February. The new line of mattresses is designed around three core principles: cooling, support and comfort.
Last year, Casper made headlines when the bed-in-a-box company sold its Canadian operations to this country’s largest mattress retail organization, Sleep Country, for $20.6 million US.
