Inside Look: New Furniture Intros at High Point Market
By Clare Tattersall
It may not feel like fall in some areas of the country, as temperatures have not yet transitioned to cooler weather, but the season is officially upon us. This means we’re only weeks away from the world’s largest furnishings industry trade show, High Point Market.
From Oct. 26-30, tens of thousands of people from more than 100 countries will converge on High Point, N.C., to gain insights into upcoming trends and source products. Approximately 2,000 exhibitors spread across 180 buildings will welcome interior designers, architects, retail buyers and other industry professionals into their show spaces, which, when combined, totals more than 11 million square feet.
Here’s a sampling of furniture products manufactured by and/or available to Canadian retailers that will be on full display in at least one of 17 Andmore-owned buildings.
Sleep Tight
The McKenzie king grand storage bed from Whittier Wood Furniture (220 Elm — 302, Level 3) is made from certified sustainable American alder and alder veneered hardwoods. It offers a lower deck height and includes heritage-quality craftsmanship details like English dovetail drawers, mortise and tenon joinery, and fitted backs. Whisper-quiet full extension metal ball-bearing drawer slides provide maximum access to spacious drawers. The bed is available in four finishes: glazed antique cherry, fieldstone, java and pecan.

Part of IFD Group’s (Hamilton — 145, 245, Level 1) Natural Teca collection, Whiteteak captures the essence of transitional design by seamlessly blending metal and wood elements, while the white colour provides an elegant alternative to the often-found brown finish. The brand is also lightening up its Oregon Ranch line, which is crafted from sustainable mango wood and melina veneer, and is known for its distinctive design on its front panels that highlight the natural wood grain.

Inspired by Americana, the Hudson Valley spindle bed from Stickley (200 North Hamilton St. — 135A, Floor 1) feels fresh and contemporary thanks to the contrast between its dark roast walnut finish and hand-turned spindles in natural maple. An exaggerated cap rail sits on softened square posts and the entire headboard displays a subtle bow.

Time to Dine
The Cecilia dining table from Bellini Modern Living (IHFC – H520, Hamilton, Floor 5) features a modern four-leg wood base with a barrel-shaped ceramic top in a Calacatta gold and onice beige colour. Also offered in those tabletop colour options, as well as Calacatta black and Patagonia, is the Azzura dining table, whose silver colour base can be used fixed or extended.

L’Islet, Que.-based Amisco (IHFC-D720, Design Centre, Floor 7) has extendable table bases, too. The Burton is available in 15 colours and compatible with 40-inch wide tabletops that are 72, 84 or 96 inches long. Tabletops come in thermo fused laminate and wood veneer (birch, walnut and white oak). The Burton table pairs well with the Dorian chair, among others. The Dorian is available in 15 metal colours and more than 75 coverings.

Other new table bases from Amisco include the Lucarelli, which, like the Burton, is extendable, and the Amelia. Available in 15 metal colours, the Amelia is compatible with 40-inch by 72-inch and 40-inch by 84-inch rectangular, oval and racetrack tabletops. Tabletop options include glass (ultra-white and taupe), Starstone on glass, Italian porcelain on glass, thermo fused laminate, wood veneer (birch, walnut and white oak) and solid wood (birch and ash).
Sit Back and Relax
The Hillbeck coffee table from Arteriors (Commerce and Design — 1A, 1B, 1G, Floor 1) is an over-scaled slab of limed-wash mango wood that is heavily carved and sandblasted to bring out the material’s natural texture. Finished with a rhythmic grooved texture on the sides and legs, the pure form of this transitional style allows it to work within any coastal or contemporary setting. The Hillbeck can also serve as a bench.

Also from Arteriors is the Gretel chair. From the front, this tone-on-tone seat in black suede and ebony beech wood is clean and minimalist. From the back, a supportive arch is adorned with black leather loops for a textural twist. Scaled to perfectly fit smaller spaces, this detailed swivel chair can serve as an extra dining chair, vanity chair or accent piece.
BDI (IHFC-D724, Design Centre, Floor 7) launches its re-engineered Elements media and storage collection, which features hardwood veneers in the brand’s popular natural walnut finish and the new washed oak and toasted oak finishes. The four-door cabinet boasts precision-carved designs that highlight the natural cathedrals of real wood, bringing depth and dimension to each piece. It’s available in three door patterns: one that’s a play on the starry night sky, another that’s inspired by the rhythmic patterns of sound waves and a third that features flowing, interwoven lines that create a tactile, calming texture. Elements also has two base options. They include a console base for a higher platform aesthetic and a low-profile rolling plinth base with hidden wheels to help manoeuvre the cabinet.

Stay tuned for our next pre-market product showcase, which will focus on home decor and accessories.
