Pinnacle Awards Introduces New Category for 2024

The International Society of Furniture Designers (ISFD) has added a category to its annual awards program.

New to the 2024 Pinnacle Awards is the finishings category, which recognizes another level in the professional design process. This brings the total number of categories to 27.

“For designers, the finish of a product is one of the most important elements of design,” says ISFD executive director David Blair. “Because of the exigencies of the manufacturing process and differences in woods of the same species from different lots, getting even a simple-looking finish to look great can be a tricky process. And, at the higher end of the market, the people who apply the finishes are real artists, sometimes taking many days and multiple layers of coatings and distressing to achieve the desired effect. In short, it’s important, it’s complicated, it’s an essential part of the creative design process and we want to acknowledge the talented professional designers who do it well.”

Another change to the year’s awards is the price points for broad appeal and luxury bedroom, dining, leather upholstery and stationary upholstery, which have been updated to reflect current pricing levels.

Celebrated yearly, the Pinnacle Awards recognize designs that are produced mostly in larger numbers for sale to consumers.

Entry is open to all furniture and textile designers and manufacturers who are directly involved in designing home furnishings, decor or textile products available for retail sale. The items or collections entered must be in current production and have been shown and sold at one of the major home furnishings or fabric markets worldwide.

Students who are currently enrolled in or graduated in the last year from an accredited furniture or industrial design program may enter the student Pinnacle Awards.

The submission deadline is July 26.

Winners will be announced at a gala Oct. 28, during the fall edition of High Point Market.
