Palliser Ends Furniture Manufacturing in Mexico
Palliser Furniture has closed three factories in Mexico, shutting down its manufacturing there under Matamoros Holdings.
The decision was first reported by Home News Now, after the publication picked up the story from Spanish-language news sources. The move, made July 28 that effectively ended three decades of production in the Mexican state of Coahuila, has affected between 800 and 900 employees.
Palliser’s operations in Coahuila date to 1998, when it opened its first Mexican plant in Saltillo, drawn by the region’s manufacturing infrastructure and access to U.S. markets under the North American Free Trade Agreement.
The closure comes two months after longtime supplier and strategic partner MotoMotion acquired the brand name and intellectual property of the Winnipeg-based furniture manufacturer.
