Ikea Mattress Maker Ikano Industry Bets on New Brand

By Clare Tattersall

After nearly two decades of manufacturing mattresses for industry partners, Ikano Industry has launched its first consumer-facing mattress.

Ikona combines adaptive comfort with high-performance sleep technology to enhance personal well-being and support environmental responsibility, all at an accessible price.

“As we looked at the industry from our supplier perspective, we felt that this promise of better sleep was not being delivered,” says Silvia Galasso, chief sales and marketing officer at Ikano Industry. “We recognized we had the expertise to create a mattress platform that would address what consumers both want and deserve.”

The Ikona mattress is backed by RePoliol, a proprietary technology that chemically reprocesses foam waste from both manufacturing and end-of-life mattresses back into polyol — one of the key raw materials used to make polyurethane foam. This allows the material to be reused in the production of high-performance comfort foam.

Ikano Industry incorporates other sustainable products into its mattresses, including bamboo, a naturally derived fibre chosen for its breathable structure, moisture-wicking properties and cool-to-the-touch feel; recycled steel coils; sustainable performance yarns from recycled sources and engineered for durability while reducing resource consumption; and Repes, a circular reprocessed fibre technology made from the company’s internal post-industrial materials.

Ikona mattresses combine ergonomic design with personalized support technologies intended to adapt to each sleeper’s unique needs. IkoMapping technology is designed to optimize weight distribution and promote natural spinal alignment in any sleep position. It uses five to seven precision support zones, created through foam contouring or zoned coil construction, so that the mattress responds to different body contours while reducing pressure points and improving overall stability.

IkoHarmony technology incorporates two independent cores within a single mattress, allowing each sleeper to choose the comfort and firmness level that best suits their preferences.

Other proprietary technologies include AreaCool, a multi-layer system featuring cooling yarns and breathable layers for temperature regulation throughout the night, and FlexCoil System, which uses individually wrapped coils to provide contouring, motion isolation and reinforced edge support.

“We’ve designed sleep systems that respond to individual human needs,” says Galasso. “Life is not one size fits all — the way you sleep isn’t either.”

The Ikona mattress is available in three collections — Solara, Térrava and Borealis — offering a range of technologies, comfort levels, heights and price points, with models starting at $599. Every mattress is backed by a 10-year limited warranty.

The Solara collection features the company’s RePoliol circular foam platform, a removable and washable cover, lower-impact materials and precision-zoned ergonomic support designed to adapt to each sleeper’s body.

The Térrava collection pairs RePoliol sustainable foam comfort layers with a hybrid system of individually wrapped coils and precision-zoned ergonomic support. The coil system is designed to enhance support, motion isolation and edge stability, while a quilted cover made from bamboo and recycled fibres provides breathable comfort.

The premium Borealis collection combines the company’s most advanced comfort and support technologies, including the RePoliol circular foam platform. Precision ergonomic zoning works alongside a split-core construction that lets each sleeper choose a different firmness level on their side of the mattress, while an advanced cooling cover is designed to help regulate temperature throughout the night.

Ikona mattresses will be sold through select retailers across Canada, the United States and Mexico. The company also plans to partner with hospitality groups and private-label customers throughout North America.

“We see endless opportunities across many industries to bring high-performance rest to a wider audience of everyday changemakers,” says Galasso. “We believe that better sleep is not a luxury — it’s the foundation for showing up each day as the person you want to be.”

Ikano Industry is a division of Ikano Group, established by Ingvar Kamprad, who also founded Ikea. It’s the company’s largest global mattress supplier.
