Sneak Peek: High Point Market a Home Accents Haven

By Clare Tattersall

Furnishing a home is about more than purchasing big-ticket items. Yes, they’re a necessity, but it’s the lighting, throw pillows, area rugs, wall art and other decorative accessories that make a room look and feel finished.

All can be found at the world’s largest semi-annual furnishings industry trade show, High Point Market. Well-attended by interior designers and retail buyers, among other industry professionals, the spring edition kicks off its usual five-day run on April 13.

Here’s a selection of lighting, artwork and floor coverings that will be on full display and available to order at the market, manufactured by and/or available to Canadian retailers.

Lighting
You’ll want to look up when in Bethel International’s space (Commerce & Design-4C, Floor 4) to take in its show-stopping chandeliers like the nine-tier brass frame chandelier with clear hanging crystals and a black flushed frame chandelier with smoke and clear glass stones.

The Duo collection from Kalco is inspired by the adobe structures found in desert dwellings.

Kalco (IHFC-H232, Hamilton, Floor 2) will also have lighting hanging from the ceiling. Ideal for over a kitchen island or dining room table, Tubo is an art deco linear pendant in a natural brass finish that features the layering of natural materials, such as Alabaster, brass and clear Firenze crystals to create complex beautiful textures that play with light. Gisel is more ornate, meticulously crafted to resemble icy rivers and their flows, while the Duo collection, finished in matte white and soft gold, blends both modern and traditional interior styles.

Bouluxe from Couture Lamps is a chic, matte black ceramic table lamp with an artful expression.

If in search of lighting at eye-level, Couture Lamps (Suites at Market Square, G-7010, Ground) will have a wide selection of table lamps that range in style. Bouluxe has a matte black ceramic base that features an interplay of contrasting shapes and forms and a natural tan textured drum shade. Crafted with all-natural rattan, Hadden pairs a round lamp base with white linen coolie shade. Modern glamour best describes the Jacob lamp, composed of blocks of white marble and crystal, with a rectangular stack base in the same material.

Artwork
Vancouver-based home furnishings wholesaler Vertuu Design (IHFC-H215, Hamilton, Floor 2) will showcase a myriad of accessories, including lighting and decorative accents. Featured prominently will be artwork and other items to hang on walls like the Myla metal mirror in a warm bronze and Kylen metal wall decor. A set of three, each Kylen piece features geometric arches gracefully juxtaposed against warm wooden circles. With a sleek black frame accentuating white arches, the trio marries contemporary style with timeless art deco elegance.

Kylen from Vertuu Design is a trio of metal wall decor pieces, each measuring 12 inches by 32 inches.

Mississauga, Ont.-headquartered Steamline Art’s showroom (IHFC-W248, Wrenn, Floor 2) will be wholly outfitted with wall decor. On-site you’ll find Whispering Birch Forest, a set of two hand embellished canvas art in champagne floating frames, Blue Truck with Blooms and Seaside Serenity, which is exactly as the name implies in a light barnwood floating frame.

Whispering Birch Forest from Streamline Art can be purchased as a duo (as seen here) or individually.

Highlighting giclée prints, among other artistic works, is Picture Source Somerset (IFHC-C461, Commerce, Floor 4). Its latest exclusive artist, Heritage, presents Breck Landscape — a unique aesthetic through canvas giclée prints of his intricately wood-carved original pieces. Refuge features Pantone’s Colour of the Year, Peach Fuzz, and was completed by in-house artist Bustamonte.

RFA Decor, a Rosenbaum Art Company (IHFC-H223, Hamilton, Floor 2), has similar style artistic pieces. Portofino and Moonlit Garden are both a hand embellished giclée on fine art paper of an original acrylic painting from artist Robert Robinson’s travel series. Neutral Points is a hand embellished giclée on canvas from RFA Decor’s Mod collection of moderately priced art.

Floor Coverings
Trans-Ocean Import‘s (IHFC-H412, Hamilton, Floor 4) main home decor offering is area rugs. Among them is Fish to Go, which features a school of fish swimming counter-clockwise, swirling deep in the dark navy sea. Power loomed in Egypt from 75 per cent polypropylene and 25 per cent polyester, the material is flatwoven, low profile, weather-resistant, and ultraviolet stabilized and protected for enhanced fade resistance, making it ideal for high traffic outdoor areas like the patio, porch, sunroom, deck and backyard. It can also be used indoors. Keeping with the water theme, Sea Biscuit is an ocean inspired novelty indoor/outdoor mat with scattered sand dollars in grey and ivory on a navy background.

Part of the Marina collection designed by Liora Manné, Fish to Go from Trans-Ocean Import is a decorative flatweave area rug that’s available in six sizes, including as a runner.
