East Coast Furniture Retailer Awarded Grant

Island Furniture Association is among the winners of Purolator’s 2025 True North Small Business Grant contest.

Operating for more than four decades in St. John’s, Nfld., the not-for-profit store sells home and office furniture and appliances, reinvesting its profits into community programs that support inclusion, skill-building and long-term employment — particularly for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Reducing barriers to work lowers dependency on social assistance and contributes to a more inclusive economy.

“Every couch, chair or desk they sell represents more than furniture — it represents opportunity,” says Purolator on its website.

Island Furniture has received $25,000 to grow its operations and local impact, with $500 in Purolator shipping.

Other grant recipients include Arctic Fresh, Jack59, Maplelea Canadian Dolls and SolusGuard.
